Hearty Turkey Burgers Recipe

2 Tbsp olive oil
3 med Spanish (yellow) onions, cut into 1/8 to 1/4″ pieces
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1½ lb ground turkey breast
2 Tbsp barbecue sauce
Ground black pepper
3 Tbsp dried bread crumbs
3 Tbsp quick-cooking oatmeal
1 tsp dried basil
1 Tbsp toasted wheat germ
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp dried oregano
Directions:
1. Warm the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.Add the onions and garlic,and cook over medium heat, stirring often, for about 10 minutes,or until the onions start to brown.Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time,as necessary to prevent burning.Transfer them to a large bowl, and let them cool for about 10 minutes.
2. Add in the turkey,breadcrumbs,barbecue sauce,oatmeal,basil,oregano,wheat germ,salt, and pepper to taste. Mix well.Shape the mixture into burgers using Burger Mate.
3. Coat a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray.Cook the burgers over medium heat for about 5 minutes,or until browned and crispy.Flip them carefully,and cook for 5 minutes longer, or until golden brown and a thermometer inserted in the center registers 165 degrees F and the meat is no longer pink.Serve the burgers hot.
